Since I love most types of bread, I have started converting standard bread recipes so that they could be made in the bread maker.

Bread Machine French Bread
Wednesday, May 06, 2009

This recipe makes a wonderful French Bread!  I have a Hitachi HB-B101 Bread Machine, but the recipe will work for any machine that makes a one pound loaf or a 1-1/2 pound loaf.

For a 1 pound loaf:

3 cups bread flour

1 cup water

1 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon sugar

2 teaspoons active dry yeast

Place the ingredients in your bread maker according to your bread machine instructions.  Set bread machine for basic bread or crisper crust setting if available.  Note:  This can be a challenge to remove from the bread maker because of the crispy crust.  Best to remove quickly once it is finished.

For a 1-1/2 pound loaf:

4 cups bread flour

1 1/3 cups water

1 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon sugar

1 1/2 teaspoon active dry yeast

Process the ingredients according to your bread machine instructions.  Set brad machine for basic bread or crisper crust setting if available.  Remove the bread from the bread pan to cool.
