Cutting Down on Spam Posts

We are working on some changes to cut down on spam posts. We hope to have them in place this afternoon.

Update: We now have some new anti-spam controls in place. Hopefully we see a lot less of those annoying technology posts. We also are testing a spellchecker. Click the "abc" image in the text editor and it opens up a spellcheck. Be sure to let us know what you think of this features, especially if you have any problems with it.

Suze Orman: Tips to pay off credit cards

In this article, Suze Orman offers some sound advice about creating an emergency savings fund instead of using credit cards for emergency. She has more great advice as well, it's worth a read.

"The best way to insulate yourself is to get out of credit card debt once and for all. If you pay off your balance, you don’t have to worry about the interest rate on your card. If you pay off your balance, you are less likely to have your credit card limit reduced; and even if it is reduced, it will not have a negative impact on your FICO score.

If you pay off your credit card balance, you can focus on building an emergency savings fund. That’s especially important in 2009. The days of using your credit card as a de facto emergency fund are over. If you tap too much of your credit card line, it is likely you will see the line reduced, your interest rate rise, and, yes, potentially have your card closed down — and there goes your FICO score. Unpaid balances in 2009 will put you in the middle of a vicious cycle. You must get out of card debt now. It is the number one action to take in 2009."

Recycling Being Thrown Away

This is a pretty annoying story about Seattle area ferry workers throwing away all the recyclables instead of recycling them.

It's always a fear of mine that our hard work of sorting, cleaning and breaking down may be going into the trash. This article present the worst case scenario... ferry workers are dumping all the recycling right into the garbage to save time. This is why it's important to stay involved and make sure people are doing what they are supposed to with our waste.

"Grandma Scam" Phone Calls

"The Better Business Bureau is investigating a nationwide scam that preys on the emotions of senior citizens for money.

An Allen Park grandmother was the most recent target and was almost conned out of $7,000.A week ago, Helen Broskea, 82, received a call from a man claiming to be her 21-year-old grandson Brandon. The man said he was in Canada and ran into some trouble and was in need of an immediate wire transfer of money."

My Frugal Life Contest

To celebrate the opening of our new blog site, My Frugal Life, we are running a new contest. We will award three $20 prizes for the best blog posts between today (August 28th) and the end of September.
