SuperBowl recipes

With the big game one week away I thought I would share a couple of recipes, just for fun!

Shrimp Dip

1 can deveined shrimp

Shrimp sauce

1 8 oz. cream cheese

Drain shrimp. Mix shrimp and cream chese to form a ball.  Top with shrimp sauce. Serve with Townhouse crackers.

I have also made it in a pan spread each ingredient on top of each other, but the ball looks fancier.

Bleu Cheese Ball

2 8 oz cream cheese

1 wedge of bleu cheese

Worcestershire sauce

Chopped nuts

Mix 2 packages of cream cheese and bleu cheese. Add a few drops of Worcestershire sauce.  Form in ball. Refrigerate until solid. Roll in nuts.

Cranberry-Pear Punch

2 c. cranberry-apple juice

2 c. or 12 oz. pear nectar

2 c. ginger ale

Mix together and chill.

I love winter because it makes me want to cook and bake more.  Depending on who is coming over, I will bake a ham for sandwiches offering various breads and spreads. I will make potato salad and a relish tray.  My other menu ideas are cooking a turkey for hot sandwiches and making cranberry salad or having a chili bar with a giant pot of chili and such additions as macaroni noodles, oyster crackers, shredded cheese and onions.

Anyway I love making parties of all kinds, birthday, holiday, football, Oscar night. Even when I have lean financial times I can still find good things to make.

Another thing that works great when the parents bring kids to the SuperBowl parties is to have a choice of 2 dvd movies to watch and set up a game/card playing table and a puzzle table.  Hard to believe even video addicted kids can have old fashioned fun! It is great for them!

I  can talk about parties too much so I will end now and wish everyone a happy and blessed week!

All this and more....
Wednesday, January 14, 2009

I have been super busy with school but the kids are learning alot and are very happy so I am too.  January is not my favorite month, it reminds me of my poor little 7 year old Marky having surgery which battered his poor little body and nearly killed him! He had 22 surgeries in less then 2 years.  Now he is in remission and doing ok.. yes he does get sick sometimes but is mostly doing well thankfully.

I remember calling the Crohn's Foundation for help back then and they never responded. That really threw me but I thought, hey this disease is mostly adult so why should they care?  They clearly did not care about my child.  So sad.

I bring this up because during the entire Christmas season I was inundated with labels, paper pads, even mugs from organizations begging for money.  I usually give to Veterans since my Dad was in WW2.  However from an unemployed person's perspective with 2 sick kids, I am tired of the begging!!!!

Sunday, January 04, 2009

Well it is Sunday and the last day of vacation! Tommorrow is back to school so the house is clean and the laundry is done!  We have many exciting lessons planned for this week.  After school the hunt will be on for finding freebies this month.  Hopefully it will not snow for a few more days so I can perform my erands on foot as always! I hope everyone has a great week!!

Shopping for 2009
Monday, December 29, 2008

Well I finally hit the mall  today!  So sad to see Steve and Barry's totally empty and Kb toys well on the way!  I did get some 50% off bargains  to put away for gifts next year.

Tommorrow I will hit the other mall and see what else I can buy and cover next year's gift occasions.

I am making spaghetti for dinner tonite.

Weekend Fun
Saturday, December 27, 2008

Well today is Saturday and it is hot 59 and raining.  The yard is flooded and we spent another day indoors!

Since our chores were done yesterday, we watched a movie this afternoon. Tonite will either be a game or movie night depending on the vote.  Have not decided what to cook for dinner tonite.  Hard to believe one week of Christmas vacation is already over!

No shopping today
Friday, December 26, 2008

Hi everyone!  Since the weather here today was truly frightful, the kids and I stayed home all day.    We built a Gingerbread house and did chores.  After a supper of $3 pizza and 88 cent soda, we played Old Maid, Crazy Eights and Life.   I am not sure if we can get out of the house tommorrow ,it really depends on the weather.

Everyone was out chasing bargains except me! I hope I can find some deals next week!
