tips to keeping warmer
Friday, October 01, 2010 | By MzScarlett

Bubble wrap works very well taped on the inside of windows; or you can mist the windows lightly and press the bubble wrap on; you can layer the bubble wrap as well; several layers! (you can post "wanted" on craigs list to get if someone has and also find in dumpsters behind businesses many times like furniture, and appliance stores for free)
Roll tightly up a towel, and place between the screen and the windows; this helps cut out a LOT of heat loss!
Layer the windows as well; just as you layer YOURSELF up: do so to your windows! bubble wrap; then curtains, then over the curtains perhaps quilts hung on another rod, or i have 2 apricot twin size bed spreads I got at thrift store for $3.00 each which I hung up on rods in the front room; look beautiful!
DO: get draft catchers for breezes: if nothing else, do so with rolled up towels again! Many times you can find animals that are made for this! You might be able to even find by googling a pattern to make them for yourself!
I got some real thick wool rugs from QVC or HSN with free shipping and handling; they do shed quite a bit but they keep the floor incredibly warmer! Royal palace is one of the ones: and they have a "floor plans" rugs which are most excellent as well!
I kept watching til I got mine at an incredibly low price with free shipping and several payments rather than paying all at one time! no interest fees at all! WONDERFUL rugs that you normally will not find locally at a fraction of the cost you CAN find locally!
DO keep an EYE out at your sales: sometimes you can SPOT them and will KNOW that they are wool and super thick and cushiony and will keep looking fantastic for years! and at a fraction of the cost!
Keep slippers handy, and wear warm socks; and drink tea or cocoa! cosy up to your boyfriend to save body heat!
DO keep afghans or quilts handy to drape around you; put your robe on backwards and voila! you have the "new" latest fad! a blanket with arms!
Do cook roasts, etc, very slowly in the oven: all day long! Not only is it similar to cooking in a crock pot, but it will help keep the house cozier!
Good luck!

I also am like minded!

Free IS the very best price of all! But I must say: your prices for the items you got were truly marvelous and almost free as well!
You might check ebay for the part you need and get the part even cheaper yet! or post on freecycle in your area, and/or craigs list! Someone might just have the part you need to fix it: FOR FREE! or BARTER!

why not try shampoo bars?
Friday, October 01, 2010 | By MzScarlett

Lots of people have discovered that the chemicals used in shampoos were making them ill, and causing problems some of them even medical problems! So they have chosen alternatives and one I just discovered is the shampoo bar by www.jrliggett.com; they have been around for a VERY long time, in fact, the "liquid" shampoos NOW are extremely new: they are NOT the SAME as hand soaps! in fact, you can google make it yourself shampoo bars and get many different recipes to try!
they DO NOT strip the OIL from your HAIR! no chemicals at all in the one I chose to use; and I will let you know up front that even after rinsing well, my HAIR felt DIFFERENT. Wasn't real SURE that I liked it; however once dry my hair was FABULOUS!
It isBECAUSE your HAIR is NOT STRIPPED of it's oil folks! once used to it, you will never go back again, guarenteed! One bar lasts 3 or 4 months I am told; and the HEALTH benefits to you and hair is worth FAR MORE than this will cost you!
Sorry to hear of your ordeal! Hope all is well with you soon!

Organic Produce
Wednesday, September 22, 2010 | By Jess

Hi and welcome to My Frugal Life. I'm trying to eat better too, both for my health and waistline and also for my growing boys. One happy decision that I have made is to have a box of organic produce delivered to my house. This forces me to use seasonal or unusual ingredients that I might not think of buying at the grocery story. Over the years, I have received mustard greens, fennel, fava beans, mangoes and blood oranges (yum), as well as favorites like onion, garlic and potatoes. The organic carrots are the best, they taste so much better than the ones you buy in bulk.

Here is an article I wrote about it on our sister site, ThriftyFun.

Have a great day.

I am interested in your comments about the "lady that was using studs" to shorten jeans. Could you elaborate a bit on this?
Thank you.
